Hershey Opens Bake Shop in Toronto       

Hershey has opened Canada’s first Hershey’s Kitchen in Toronto. The interactive cookie bake shop lets consumers quickly create their own custom cookies, individualized by ingredients. It will be open until December 24.

The company said its intent is to attract by-passers who often get caught up in their commutes to and from work and inspire them to seize everyday moments like taking a break with a custom-made snack.


Store Brands Offer Value

Results of a recent survey suggest that shoppers are buying more store brands for better value, not just for a better price. Millennials demonstrate the highest adoption of private label products, according to a recent IRI Consumer Connect survey.

“Shoppers are buying private brands because it makes them feel good to save money without sacrificing taste, selection or quality,” said Joan Driggs, vice president of Content and Thought Leadership at IRI. “The improved consumer perception of private label value is having a growing influence on store choice, with many leading retailers offering premium private label selections.”


ROFDA to Join Forces with NGA

The Retailer Owned Foods Distributors & Associates (ROFDA) will merge under the National Grocers Association (NGA). The merger will bring together two organizations with a shared mission to ensure a robust independent supermarket industry while continuing to provide a forum and platform for cooperative wholesalers.

Francis Cameron, President & CEO of ROFDA, said, “The supermarket industry is undergoing change at a rapid pace. Similarly, as organizations serving independent retailers, we too must shift and align areas of interest and streamline efficiencies.”


Quotient Acquires Ubimo

Quotient Technology, a leading digital promotions, media and analytics company, has agreed to acquire Israel-based Ubimo, a data and media activation firm. The acquisition aims to strengthen Quotient’s targeted digital media platform.

Steven Boal, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Quotient, said, “This transaction will position Quotient for even stronger performance in the CPG and retail industries we serve. We believe the Ubimo platform will help us accelerate product development of a Quotient self-service platform, one of our strategic objectives.”


Novus International Streamlines Compliance

Novus International has adopted the ReposiTrak Compliance & Risk Management Solution to automate the collection of compliance and regulatory documents from its suppliers and reduce risk.  Based in St. Charles, Mo., Novus International develops animal health and nutrition solutions.
